Maytag is one of the most reliable dishwasher brands in home appliance category. Like other appliances, you can also depend on their dishwashers. Actually, Maytag is a division of Whirlpool Corporation. Their dishwashers face less problems than other brands in the market. The manufacturer has given their dishwashers a user-friendly shape. That’s why not only you but also your child is capable of handling it. But like other machines, your dishwasher may face some minor issues with the time passing. Maytag dishwasher flashing lights or blinking is one of them. But it doesn’t mean a problem all the time. Sometimes, your dishwasher gives you a notification by blinking lights.
You can only take blinking lights as a problem when it continues and you fail to use it smoothly. If it appears as a problem, you must solve it to use your machine. Don’t worry! It is not a major problem. Just adjust the water temperature, install the drain hose correctly or replace the necessary parts to solve it. Below, I have discussed the most common reasons behind this problem and their best solutions.
Replace Heating Element
Your dishwasher needs a certain water temperature to operate. Heating element heats up water. When water reaches in required temperature, your dishwasher starts operating. If heating element fails to heat up water within a certain time, a light in the control panel starts flashing. It occurs for a burnt heating element. Just test the heating element with a multimeter for continuity. If there is no continuity, it means the heating element is burned out. So, you must replace it to solve flashing problem.
Replace Heating Element Assembly
As I mentioned in the upper step, heating element heats up water to reach a certain temperature. This heating element needs proper assembly to work smoothly. Due to the failure of heating element assembly, heating element fails to heat up water. It can fall electrically or mechanically. To determine the electrical fault, take a multimeter and check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace it. You also need to replace it if it is physically damaged.
Take Action According to Fault Codes
If your machine flashes lights, you will notice an error code on the display. Every error code shown in the display has a specific meaning and you must solve it to get your dishwasher run again. Follow your dishwasher’s manual, consult the wiring diagram, tech sheet and solve the problem.
Solve Drain Hose Problem to Stop Blinking
Your dishwasher may flash lights if its drain hose is too narrow for passing water or it is kinked. That is why straighten the hose or replace it with a hose that has enough space to pass dirty water.
Solve Drain Pump Problem
Drain pump drains out dirty water through the drain hose with the power of impeller. If drain pump fails to drain, a light in the control panel starts flashing. To find out the fault of drain pump, take a multimeter and test the pump motor for continuity. Motor pump is not repairable. If there is no continuity, you must replace it. Apart from that a broken impeller also liable of light flashing. So, check the pump for a broken impeller. If the impeller is broken, replace it.
Solve Touchpad Problem to Stop Flashing Lights
Sometimes, a faulty touchpad causes light flashing. Firstly, confirm that the display is working fine. If the display is working, touch all of the touchpad buttons. If some of the buttons are responding accurately but others are not, it means the touchpad is at fault. If your dishwasher model allows you to change touchpad separately from the control panel replace it. If your dishwasher model doesn’t allow you to change it separately, change touchpad and control panel together.
Solve Touchpad and Control Panel Problem
Both touchpad and control panel issues result in light blinking. If the display of your Maytag dishwasher working fine, press all of the touchpad buttons. If some buttons are working but others aren’t, your dishwasher is likely at fault with both touchpad and control panel. Some Maytag dishwasher allows you to change touchpad or control panel separately. If possible, change the touchpad firstly. If light flashing continues, change the control panel also.
The above mentioned solutions of Maytag dishwasher blinking lights problem are very much practical. If your dishwasher blinks light, just follow them. No need to send your dishwasher to the repair shop or no need to spend on a technician. But you may need to purchase parts if required. If the problems are major and you have no prior experience, don’t try to fix it. It will rather make the problem complex. So, claim a repair service from the manufacturer if your dishwasher is still in the warranty period. Otherwise, send it to the nearest experienced technician.
